Description: | Cnapan Breaca and Hallival from north, Rum. Inverness-shire. View over the acidic volcanism areas of the Northern Marginal Zone and the ultrabasic and basic layered suite, both of the Palaeogene Rum Central Complex. Rocks from the Northern Marginal Zone form the low foreground (Coire Dubh Breccia) and the pale crags and outcrops on Cnapan Breaca (rhyodacite ash flows). The sharp break at the base of the Cnapan Breaca crags marks the position of bedded tuffs and fine-grained sandstone. Members of the Eastern Layered Intrusion form the grassy area in Coire Dubh (marginal easy-weathering gabbro) and the terraced slopes leading up to Hallival (layered bytownite-troctolite and peridotite). |
