Description: | Oblique aerial view of the Arthur's Seat volcano, looking from the west-north-west. The remnants of the Lower Carboniferous Arthur's Seat volcano form Queen's Park in the middle distance. Crow Hill and the Arthur's Seat summit on the left are formed of agglomerate and intrusions filling the volcanic vents. Dunsapie Hill, in front and half-hiding Dunsapie Loch, is a satellite dolerite plug. On the right are the two dip slopes: Whinny Hill to the front is formed of the remains of the lava flows, Salisbury Craigs to the rear is formed of a slightly younger teschenite (dolerite) sill. |
