| Description: | Oblique aerial view of Granton Gasworks, Edinburgh, view from the east-south-east. The three gasholders form a prominent feature of the north Edinburgh skyline. The site lies on the flattish feature of the late-glacial raised beach. The gasholders are now used to store natural gas pumped in from the North Sea. Originally they stored town gas produced from coal on the extensive site. Most of the installations have been cleared from the site, but a few of the brick-built buildings remain, as do traces of the railway sidings used for bringing in the coal. |
