Description: | Oblique aerial view of the eastern slopes of Gars-bheinn area in the foreground looking north to the main Cuillin ridge with Sgurr nan Gillean on the right, Skye. The foreground is at the outside edge of the complex. The outcrop of the Outer Marginal Gabbros and Eucrites of the Cuillins Complex seen in the foreground curves round in a semi-circle to the west, outcropping on the far side of the ridge all the way round to the north side of Sgurr nan Gillean where it stops in contact with the later intruded Western Red Hills Complex. The complex is approximately 8 km. in diameter, dipping at 10-20 degrees inwards at the edges rising to 60-70 degrees at the younger intrusions at the centre. The north-east part of the complex was destroyed by the later intrusions of the granitic complexes of Western Red Hills and Srath na Creitheach. |
