The steep, wooded escarpment is formed of alternations of sandstone and mudstone of the St. Maughan's Formation overlying the predominantly mudstone formation of the Raglan Mudstone, which forms the lower arable ground. Much of the low ground of the Lugg Valley to the east (right-hand side of the photograph) is floored by fluvioglacial gravels. |
