A general view of the pit, looking south-east towards the Cotswolds escarpment. After removal of the topsoil the sand is worked by dragline. It rests on Lower Lias clay, which is touched in the bottom of the excavation. Water in the bottom of the pit issues at the sand - Lower Lias junction. |
