Description: Burlton Court Gravel Pit, Burghill, Hereford. Lower Portway Gravel overlain by Welsh Till. The contact of the two deposits is about 1.5 m. from the top of this north-west facing exposure. The contact is inaccessible. The upper 4 m. of the Lower Portway Gravel is an extremely coarse cobble-boulder gravel with a well-marked imbrication structure indicating a current direction from right to left of the photograph (to 325 degrees). The well-rounded cobbles and boulders are of locally derived sandstone. The fine-grained gravel below is composed predominantly of pebbles of cornstone.
