Description: Burlton Court Gravel Pit, Burghill, Hereford. Welsh Till overlying Portway Gravel. The north-east face of the Burghill pit provided the only accessible contact of Welsh drift on older outwash gravels (the Portway Gravels). The contact is the pale level at about the middle of the face. The upper deposit is a gravelly till exhibiting a chaotic fabric and containing abundant large subangular clasts of Welsh Lower Palaeozoic rocks. The lower deposit is a fine-grained, stratified gravel derived entirely from local Old Red Sandstone rocks.
