Description: Upper Lyde Gravel Pit, Pipe & Lyde, Hereford. Lower Portway Gravels in the Upper Lyde Pit. A view of the north-west face with stratified gravels of variable coarseness. The clasts are almost entirely of local origin of Old Red Sandstone age. The cobbles and larger pebbles are sandstone and the smaller pebbles are mostly cornstone. Note the well defined imbrication in the coarser beds indicating a current direction to the north-east (left to right).
