Description: | Rugby Portland Cement Co. Quarry, Rugby, general view. Looking SW. Rugby Quarry exposes nearly the full thickness of the Blue Lias Formation. The ground rises gently to the southeast (i.e. the left of the photograph) and the beds dip gently in the same direction, and so the highest beds occur in the south-east (left-hand) face. The Lower Lias mudstones beneath the base of the Blue Lias occur just below water level in the flooded area of the pit. |
