Description: Thetford Heath, 4 km. SW of Thetford. Patterned ground. This ploughed firebreak shows the alternation across the slope of chalk and cover sand. The difference between the chalk and cover sand is visible as a vegetation pattern beyond the firebreak. The patterning was probably caused by cryoturbation under periglacial conditions during the Devensian.
