| Description: | Allen Newport Gravel Pit, Fornham Park, Fornham, Bury St. Edmunds. Chalky Boulder Clay overlying glacial sand and gravel. Note the planar base of the boulder clay. The underlying sand and gravel is predominantly horizontally-bedded. It consists mainly of sands within the gravel bands. The chalk seen in the foreground may have been dumped from elsewhere in the pit, but 'in situ' chalk occurs about 50 m. to the south. |
