Description: | The Rock and Spindle sea stack, part of the Kinkell Ness neck, 3 km. east of St. Andrews. Fifeshire. The circular 'Spindle' is formed of xenolithic, columnar basanite and the stack behind it (the 'Rock') is formed of basanitic breccia. A classic view of the sea stack. The volcanic activity that gave rise to the neck or vent was of widespread occurrence in the Midland Valley of Scotland. In Fife these vents represent localized centres of explosive pyroclastic activity. |
