Description: | Relict Torridonian mountains. 1/2 km. north-east of Stoer. Mountains of Torridonian sandstone rising above the surface of Lewisian gneiss. Reading left to right they are: Canisp, Suilven, Cul Mor, Cul Beag and Stac Pollaidh. This scenery is typical of the north-western seaboard. Torridonian sandstone forms steep-sided, often isolated mountains rising abruptly from a rocky, lochan-dotted terrain composed of the much older Lewisian rocks. N. highlands regional guide. |
