Description: | The Ring of Brodgar, Orkney, a henge monument, occupies a commanding position on a narrow promontary between the lochs of Stenness and Harray. There were originally sixty stones in the circle, set near the inner edge of the ditch; of these only thirty-six survive, either as uprights or broken stumps. The diameter of the Ring of Brodgar is almost exactly 125 megalithic yards and it has been claimed that it was a lunar observatory. |
