Description: | Cuckfield Church. Looking N. Cuckfield Church, constructed largely of local stone. The tower and nave of the church are constructed of sandstone from the Tunbridge Wells Sand: probably almost all is Ardingly Sandstone but some may have come from the Upper Tunbridge Wells Sand since quarries in both horizons occur nearby. The nave is roofed with Horsham Stone, a fissile calcareous sandstone from the Weald Clay (see also A10237). The tiles on the spire are also probably of local origin, being manufactured from the Wadhurst Clay or the Weald Clay. |
