Description: Kirdford Church, Kirdford, near Petworth. Looking NW. Building stone used in Kirdford Church, Sussex. The tower and nave walls are of siliceous Hythe Beds sandstone, in sawn blocks, with occasional fragments of chert (dull orange brown colour) incorporated here and there. Slabs of calcareous flagstone and of large 'Paludina' limestone from the Weald Clay occur in subsequent repairs to these walls. The roof is calcareous flaggy sandstone (? Horsham Stone). [The font, date 1620, is a fine example of its kind, constructed of large 'Paludina' limestone dug locally.]
