The ridge crossing the photograph in the middle distance is an escarpment formed by a bed of large - 'Paludina' limestone in the Weald Clay. (It is seen from the north-east in photo A10035.) Rising above it in the far distance is the Lower Greensand escarpment with Coneyhurst Hill (Guildford Sheet 285) prominent in the centre of the photograph and a valley leading to Holmbury St. Mary (Reigate Sheet 286) seen to the right. |
