Description: The notch is the product of prolonged marine erosion and its pre-glacial age is strongly suggested as no gravels are preserved on the raised beach and it has undergone erosion, unlike the late-glacial and postglacial raised beaches at lower levels. The field in the foreground contains hayricks typical of the date at the time of the photograph. A rock-notch marking the inner margin of pre-glacial raised beach, at about 43 m. above present high water mark. It runs along the hill-slopes for about one mile as a conspicuous feature of the landscape.
