Description: | Achosnich, Ardnamurchan. Argyllshire. Part of the Ardnamurchan Tertiary igneous complex. The view shows part of the early ring-dyke complex, with the later Great Eucrite ring-dyke on the left. Part of a panorama with C02785. Prior to centralized igneous activity, the area would have been covered with plateau basalts. Activity began east of Ben Hiant, then moved to the western part of Ardnamurchan here at Achosnich and finally to the area near Achnaha. The Ardnamurchan Tertiary igneous complex is one of seven central complexes that lie on a line trending north-north-west to south-south-east from Skye to Arran. Others exist further west e.g. St. Kilda and several submarine centres. |
