Description: | Silbury Hill, from near Long Barrow, West Kennett. Looking N. Silbury Hill. Prehistoric tower or 'high place', 130 feet in altitude; built of blocks and rubble of Middle Chalk excavated in making the surrounding moat. The moat, which was not completed, contains water when the Kennett is in flood. The 'Hill' may be of late Neolithic or early Bronze age. It is reputed to be the largest structure of the kind in Europe. |
