Caption: | Stacks of Duncansby. Looking north. Caithness. |
Description: | The pyramidal stack attains a height of nearly 200 feet and sits on a wave-cut platform. The sandstone has strong bedding and jointing, both features that aid the formation of sea stacks. The rocks are gently dipping in a north-north-west direction. Cliff and stacks of John o' Groats Sandstone (Old Red Sandstone age). Rounded boulders of sandstone form the beach in the foreground. Cliff and stack of Caithness Flagstone Group can be seen in the far distance. |
