Description: | Cliff E. of Thorn Island, Angle. Looking SE. Upper Old Red Sandstone. The hammer rests on the lower part of a lenticle of conglomeratic 'cornstone' in a group of red sandstones (with malachite, coal-laminae and plant-remains; not seen). The group has been bleached light-grey along a lenticle extending somewhat obliquely to the bedding to the height of the cave on the right. The marl beneath the sandstone-group is cleaved, and its 'race' (long nodules) have been brought parallel to the cleavage by pressure (as at A). |
