Description: | King Arthur's Castle, Tintagel, from the S. Coast scenery. Upper Devonian slates and lavas. The upper part of the cliffs of the mainland consists of phyllites which are lower in the Upper Devonian sequence than the rocks at sea level. They have reached their present position by having been thrust over the upper beds. In some of the rocks of the mainland the mineral 'ottrelite' occurs. It was in specimens collected hereabouts that the mineral was first identified by Mr Maynard Hutchings. Geol.Mag.1889. |
