| Description: | Gedloch Quarry, near Coleburn (A941 between Elgin and Rothes). Banff. View south-east across the quarry to the crushing plant. Faulted Middle Devonian conglomerate and Grampian Group indurated psammites. The quarry produces aggregate from the grey indurated micaceous and quartzose psammites seen dipping north on the right. These are faulted (ochreous yellow-brown zone) against breccia and conglomerate of Middle Devonian age which are near horizontal and form the weathered cliff behind the crusher. Note the front-loader tipping into the crusher and a system of conveyors. Psammites are a metamorphosed equivalent of detrital sedimentary rocks, typically metamorphosed sandstones. |
