Description: | Chad Girt, White Island, St. Martins. Looking SE. Section seen in a gully at the south end of White Island. The gully has been eroded along a 'greisen line' in the granite and the sea is to the left or on the opposite side of the ridge forming the skyline. Resting on the granite (old beach platform) are the following, in ascending order: 1.A small band of rounded pebbles constituting the old beach. 2. Angular material forming the Main Head, and 3. The fine iron cement containing patches of pebbles, some glacially stratified. Figured in Memoirs of the Geological Survey - The geology of the Isles of Scilly (1906) Plate VI. |
