| Description: | Cowglen, near Thornliebank, 3 miles south-west of Glasgow. Renfrewshire. Shallow stoop and room workings in Main or Rough Coal, exposed during excavations at New Fever Hospital site. Showing old pillars of coal and mouths of galleries. The coal because of its thickness and character and the nature of the associated strata was correlated with the Rough Coal of the Cowglen succession. The old workings are not, so far as is known, recorded on any existing plans. It is thought that they were wrought from shallow pits of which no trace now remains. The workings were thought to date back to the 1830's. |
