Description: Ballochmyle Quarry, the eastern part of the quarry. Mauchline. Ayrshire. Permian red desert sandstones showing large-scale aeolian (wind-blown) dune-bedding. The curved bounding surfaces are clearly visible. A quarryman is visible in the lower right. Similar New Red Sandstone of Permian age red sandstones have been quarried in Dumfriesshire at Gatelawbridge, Lochabriggs and Corncockle.
