Presented by the Societe Marbriere d'Avesnes, Gussignies, Nord. This specimen is another example of the Siena Marble of Tuscany. It differs a little from the Convent variety in that the yellow ground-mass is lighter, and some of the veins are transparent. The panels of the pulpit placed in All Souls' Roman Catholic Church Peterborough, in 1912, are composed of this marble. It was also used for decorating the pulpit of St Paul's Cathedral, London in 1861. |
