| Description: | Isle of Jura, Argyllshire. Looking west. Jura Quartzite forming the Paps of Jura. Beinn Shiantaidh (right) and Beinn an Oir (left), Loch an t-Siob in foreground. Note the pale-coloured screes near the tops of the hills, formed by the white quartzite, and the moundy deposits of morainic material along the bottom of the valley and on the margins of the loch. Most of Jura is composed of the Jura Quartzite formation (Islay Subgroup, Argyll Group, part of the Dalradian Supergroup) which totals more than 4 km. in thickness. The Islay Subgroup is overlain by the Easdale Subgroup, which crops out along the south-eastern coast of Jura. |
