| Description: | Linn of Dee, 10 km. west of Braemar, Aberdeenshire. Flaggy quartzose schists of Moine type showing lenticular structure. Stone bridge in background. Narrow gorge eroded by River Dee through gently-dipping flaggy Grampian Group psammite (metamorphosed sandstone). Subvertical jointing is irregular, giving a ragged edge to the sides of the gorge. Lenticular structure (see close-up, photo C00327) in psammites is caused by tight folding followed by shearing roughly parallel to bedding planes, which has largely disrupted thicker beds, leaving lenticular pods of more massive psammite, mostly centred on cores of isoclinal folds.
