| Description: | Oblique aerial view north-east from Ben Bowie to Inchmurrin, Loch Lomond and Balmaha. The Highland Line, the prominent feature that trends north-east stretches from the south-east flank of Ben Bowie to Inchmurrin and across Loch Lomond to Balmaha. It is formed by steeply-dipping massive Lower Devonian quartz-conglomerates (Inchmurrin Conglomerate) which are faulted across the Inchmurrin/Gualann Fault against serpentinite to the north-west. Some pillow lavas, limestones and conglomerates are also found and parts of this assemblage are Lower Ordovician (Arenig) in age. Some later gritty turbiditic psammites are also seen in this Highland Border Complex. Its outcrop is commonly 70 - 120 m. wide and to the north-west are downfaulted Upper Devonian/Lower Carboniferous sandstones and conglomerates. |
