| Description: | Achosnich, Ardnamurchan. Argyllshire. Part of the Ardnamurchan Tertiary igneous complex. The subdued country in the foreground is due to prevalence of quartz-gabbro intrusions. Part of a panorama with C02784. The distant rocky hill (Beinn na Seilg) owes its boulder form to another ring-dyke of eucrite, intruded in the quartz-gabbro complex. The outcrop of this intrusion descends the right-hand slope of Beinn na Seilg and crosses a valley, eroded along later-developed crush-lines, to ascend the slope of Beinn nan Ord (seen on skyline on extreme right). The Ardnamurchan Tertiary igneous complex is one of seven central complexes that lie on a line trending north-north-west to south-south-east from Skye to Arran. Others exist further west e.g. St. Kilda and several submarine centres. |
