| Description: | The workable slates of the district all belong to the Dalradian Ballachulish Slates group, the outcrops of which belong to the core of the Ballachulish recumbent syncline. The slate is fine-grained, and dark-grey or bluish grey - generally called black. Pyrite is abundant but does not affect the lasting qualities of the slate. It is 400 yards long by 280 yards wide and has been worked from a number of galleries. The quarry face is 300 feet above floor-level from which extensive sinkings reach an additional depth of 115 feet. |
