Doggers of calcareous sandstone in the Bargate Beds are levered out by a long crowbar on which extra leverage is obtained by means of a plank placed at right-angles to the bar with one end on the ground. On this plank quarrymen stand and jump in unison, balancing themselves by long poles. |
