Description: Culbin sand-hills. Morayshire. Wind-rippled surface of blown sand. The direction of sand-drift is obliquely from left to right i.e. from west to east. The bulk of sand movement is close to the surface and proceeds by the process of saltation, grains jumping up then falling to the ground to dislodge other grains or cause a slow creep in the larger grains. The western slopes of the hills are gentle and the inclination of the eastern ones are about 25 degrees.
