Description: Cliff just W. of Cowleaze Chine, Brightstone Bay. Looking E. Junction of Wealden Shales and Marls, near Cowleaze Chine. The descending succession shown is: Wealden Shales. Shales, about 30 ft. seen. Sandstone of Barnes High (make vertical face on right), 21 ft. Shales and thin sandstones, 19 ft. Calcareous sandstone, and siltstone (white band) 5 ft. Variegated sandy marl ( = Hysilophodon Bed) 1 to 3 ft. Wealden Marls - variegated sandy marl and sand (foot of cliff on left). Ref: 'A short account of the geology of the Isle of Wight', pp.12, 15-17.
