Caption: Whale Chine, Chale Bay, from road. Looking S.
Description: Whale Chine, Chale Bay, from road. Looking S. Whale Chine, from above. Looking seaward, from the Military Road, near upper end of chine. The chine is cut in Recent Alluvium and gravel (thin) and Lower Greensand (Upper Crioceras Beds, Walpen Sands and Clay and Lower Crioceras Beds). The inclination of the bed of the chine is opposed to that of the surface of the ground in which the ravine is cut. In its development the chine seems to have intercepted a stream which formerly ran from left to right, through the immediate foreground of the view.
