Description: | Welch's Brick Works, Claygate. Folded Claygate Beds. Type locality. At the junction of sand and clay water is thrown as springs. This water carries sand and the constant drain of sand from below the higher beds of clay lead to gradual slipping of the ground. Where aided by slope, landslips occur, which tend to buckle on encountering adjacent ground which acts as a buttress. (See also A1404.) (See Proc. Geol. Assoc. Vol. XXIII. pp.237-242.) |
