Description: McGhies Quarry Thistle Plaster Works, 1 m. NE of Kirkby Thore. Looking S. Eroded and channelled surface of the gypsum. The vertical face has been formed by erosion prior to the removal of the capping of marl. It represents the greater part of the thickness of the 'top post' which is on to the south but has been eroded (not quarried) towards the camera. Typical water-worn surfaces are visible. The 'Black Cap' of the gypsum bed weathers prominently.
