| Description: | Bow Fiddle, Scar Nose, Portknockie, 2.4 km. north-north-west of Cullen. Banffshire. Formation of arches in inclined thick-bedded quartzite and thin mica-schists of the Cullen Quartzite. The Bow Fiddle a stack with arch, has formed at the present sea level. On the left, the cave well above present sea level was formed by wave action associated with a raised beach when the sea level was relatively higher. The Bow Fiddle was formed by wave action on the joints on either side of the Scar Nose headland. Caves would have formed first, the caves would then join up forming an arch, then roof collapse would form the isolated stack. A similar process is now happening on the stack itself. |
