| Description: | Craigenlow Quarry, Dunecht. Aberdeenshire. The crushing plant. The quarry works the pink and grey Crathes and Balblair granodiorites for aggregate. A dump truck is seen reversed and unloading into the top of the primary crusher; conveyors lead to successive stages of crushing. A number of sorted aggregate heaps can be seen below some conveyors. Coarse aggregate is used for road bases, the surfacing of minor roads and general-purpose concreting aggregate. A granodiorite is a coarse-grained acid igneous rock consisting of quartz, calc-alkali feldspar and ferromagnesian minerals mainly hornblende and biotite. |
