Description: | Western shore of Orkney c. 3 m. north-west of Stromness. Looking north from Brough of Bigging, Yesnaby across Noust of Bigging to cliffs of gently inclined Lower Stromness Flags. (Middle Old Red Sandstone.) The gently dipping and flaggy nature of the rocks is clearly seen. The normal type of flagstone is a blue-grey, calcareous rock which splits into layers two to four inches thick. Other variations also occur. |
