Description: | Burton Bradstock. Looking NW. Coastal cliff. East end of Burton Cliff. Shows upper part of Bridport Sands (Upper Lias), capped by several feet of Inferior Oolite limestone. The horizontal-bedding gives rise to a vertical cliff face, in places undercut at the base, this being related to the protection of the upper part by the hard limestone. The resistance to weathering of the hard ribs of calcareous sandstone in the Sands, is well shown. |
