The main band of stone consists of Purbeck 'Caps' and Portland Building Stone; above this band is Purbeck 'rubble'; below it the cherty series of the Portland Limestone series; near sea level, in the middle distance is an outcrop of Portland Sands. The scree material is almost entirely the result of marine erosion. The total height of the cliffs is about 280 ft. |
