Description: Oblique aerial view of Crosskirk Communications Station, Crosskirk Bay, Caithness. View to the south-south-west. The bedding in this area dips gently to the north-west: this is displayed well by the skerries which jut out from the shore. The rocks, in the Latheron Subgroup of the Upper Caithness Flagstone Group in the Middle Old Red Sandstone, consist of successive uniform beds of lacustrine shale, siltsones and fine-grained sandstone. The skerries are a result of beds dipping sub-orthogonally to the shore and therefore are more resistant to weathering. In the foreground is the US Navy communications station and in the distance the Dounreay Experimental Research Establishment can be seen.
