Description: Oblique aerial view of Strathy Point, Sutherland. View to the north-west. A south-east - north-west trending fault separates Proterozoic siliceous grey gneisses of the Swordly Nappe Strathy Complex (on the left) from Pre-Caledonian amphibolite/hornblende gneisses at the tip of the headland. The rear shoreline roughly follows the alignment of the north-north-east trending Strathy Bay Fault, which marks the eastern boundary of the Strathy Complex. The grey gneisses are overlain by Quaternary boulder clay which typically includes fragments of schist, granite and red flagstones. Signs of solifluction can be seen at the cliff-tops.
