Caption: Furnace quarry.
Description: A very large quarry in microgranite currently being worked as aggregate. The stone has previously been worked as a facing stone. The total length of the exposed face is approximately 200m and there are four benches each of up to 20m in height. The colour of the rock varies quite markedly throughout the quarry: there are large areas of both predominantly grey and predominantly pink varieties. The control on the coloration is most likely to be late stage hydrothermal fluid infiltration. Consistency in coloration could be guaranteed due to the definite partition of areas of different colour.
