| Description: | The genus Lima belongs to the family Limidae and superfamily Limacea. It has an inequilateral, oblique equivalve shell. The shell is higher than it is longer and with a short hinge line. The hinge is edentulous, i.e. lacking in teeth or has weak denticles near the end of the hinge margin. It has fine radial ornamentation and concentric growth lines. British Geological Survey Biostratigraphy Collection number GSE 3592. Lima is a byssally attached genus that can also swim by valve clapping. This specimen of Lima concentrica was found in the Upper Jurassic Lower Kimmeridgian at Wester Garty north-east from Brora. The greater part of the Kimmeridgian strata of East Sutherland consists of thinly-bedded bituminous shales with ammonites and other fauna with interbedded boulder beds and represent a shallow water facies. |
