Description: Lane, E. of Garth Penrhyncoch. Looking SSW. Gently folded sandstones in Borth Mudstones Formation. A gently plunging (southwards) upright gentle anticlinal fold with a rounded hinge zone, in the higher beds of the Borth Mudstone Formation. An 8 cm. thick, well-jointed, grey poorly-cleaved sharp-based sandstone, a possible precursor of the Aberystwyth Grits Formation is interbedded with thicker units of monotonous pasty grey mudstones. The poorly-bedded nature of the mudstones is seen and also the crudely fractured mudstone pencils, elongated parallel to the fold axis and cleavage, and showing spheroidal weathering patterns. The cleavage can be seen dipping at 50 degrees to the west, above the sandstone.
